Tango short films

in Spanish with English subtitles

"VA 2161"

This psychomagic sci-fi tango assemblage explores a world of narrations and voices from various times and places. Guiding the audience through its first tango steps, it features modular synthesizers, field recordings, and Amijai Shalev's bandoneon playing. Narratives of resistance follow unexpected paths, immersing viewers in a poetic, eerie counter-representation that challenges the colonial appropriation of tango, paraphrasing dance scholar Marta Savigliano.

“Buenos 4ires”

This sensory ethnographic short film explores the intersections of tango, identity, and Buenos Aires' urban spaces. Using field recordings, cinematography, and live performances, it examines how diverse modes of being shape our perception of space. Featuring Julián Peralta, Fer Bietti, and Pablo Martínez, "Buenos 4ires" observes tango away from the stage.

Juan Pablo de Lucca is an Argentine composer, producer, and pianist currently based in Berlin. He explores the interplay of acoustic and electronic sound spaces while drawing from diverse musical traditions. His compositions span the various mediums of film, theater, dance, and music.
